The WCLC (Western Canada Lottery Commission) created the Western 649 lottery for players in the western provinces and the 3 territories. For Western 649 draws, seven balls (six main numbers and one Bonus number) are drawn. The first draw for Western 649 was on February 10, 1999, and the draws take place twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday.
Initially, Western 649 main draws were made using ball-draw machines. However, changes were made in the game on May 14, 2019
The numbers are now chosen using a RNG (Random Number Generator). The RNG continuously cycles through thousands of numbers each second. When the draw attendant requests a number from the computer, the number on the RNG at that exact moment is provided.
